Extreme weather has caused frequent disasters around the globe. Central India is one of the areas heavily affected by the lack of precipitation, the farmers there are experiencing a painfully prolonged drought. In the Chitrakoot district where an alarmingly low level of rain has been recorded for 3 straight years. Men of the farming families were forced to look for other jobs in other regions, while the children and women were left behind with a depressive economy with seemingly no end to it.

Northwestern Bangladesh Citizens Finding Ways to Combat Disasters

Disaster prevention in high risk areas is often, if not always, as important as emergency relief efforts. CEDAR’s partner, Lutheran Aid to Medicine in Bangladesh (LAMB), has been promoting social health and development in northwestern Bangladesh for the past 3 years. They strengthened the area’s disaster responses to mitigate damages together with local churches and resident networks.

Burma: Army Investigation Denies Atrocities Against Rohingya Muslims

In March 2017 the United Nations Human Rights Council resolved to urgently dispatch an international mission to Burma to investigate alleged recent human rights violations against Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State.  Aung San Suu Kyi has rejected the proposed UN inquiry.
