There is an uneven distribution of food in the world. There is a huge amount of surplus food in the rich countries that are thrown away every day. In the report by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN published in 2011, 1/3 of food fit for human consumption was wasted away, totaling 1.3 billion tonnes. But in the poor countries, many people struggle to have enough food, or suffer from under-nutrition.

Since the severe earthquake that occurred at the end of October in Northern Afghanistan hillside, relief efforts continue. This earthquake had caused landslide, and over 13,000 houses were damaged. Over a thousand had been injured and 200 had perished, most of them were children and women.
CEDAR partner in Pakistan, Pak Mission Society (PMS) expresses concern over the coming winter. As the damaged area had been poor, and far from urban area, meteorologists say that the cold weather will only worsen the situation.

Climate Change would Drive 100 Millions into Extreme Poverty
A recent report released by World Bank says climate change is already preventing people from escaping poverty. The world must pair efforts to stabilise climate change with programmes to eliminate poverty if vulnerable people are to be kept from falling back into hardship as rising temperatures wreak havoc on food security and livelihoods. As many as 100 million people could slide into extreme poverty by 2030 because of rising temperatures, which are caused by greenhouse gas emissions.

Shortage of Gasoline Hinder the Progress of Post-quake Rehabilitation
It has been half a year since the earthquake in Nepal, and the relief and rehabilitation effort still continue. At the same time, the Nepalese Government had passed new constitution law in mid-September and the first female president was elected in October. These new changes will hopefully stabilize the situation there and allow the citizens to return to normal livelihood.
