Pray for Christians and Churches in Nepal

[ePrayer – Pray for Christians and Churches in Nepal]

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Give thanks that our two co-workers safely returned from a fruitful trip in Nepal. The Nepali Christians and churches are growing, becoming more organised and visible, and starting to give more attention to the needy in their own community. Collaborating with seminary schools, our partner UMN develops a curriculum of Integral Mission course to train up facilitators sent from local churches. A number of trained facilitators organized sewing classes in their community, which are creative ways of giving care and support to needy people.

Pray for Nepali churches and Christians:

  • Pray for God’s protection and strength in those Christians facing persecution from their family members and own community;
  • Pray for the progress in developing a good curriculum for the Integral Mission course;
  • Pray for wisdom in the church leaders and facilitators that they can find necessary resources to respond to local needs and concerns.

Habakkuk 1: 2- 3

How long, LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, ‘Violence!’ but you do not save?

Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds. (NIV)

For decades the Myanmar government armed forces and opposing non-state armed groups have engaged in armed conflict. The frequent occurrence and brutality of reported human rights violations by these armed forces caused us to cry out like Prophet Habakkuk. Why do the innocent suffer and perish? We ask God to intervene yet violence and abuses prevail. Over the years CEDAR has supported partners operating in conflict affected areas in Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, just to name a few. I am reminded by the book of Habakkuk that in face of conflict situation, we may be perplexed yet God is continuing His work. In the midst of violence and destruction, development is possible.

Pray for Church Empowerment Programme in Nepal

[ePrayer – Pray for the church empowerment in Nepal]

20130905-eprayer-c2

CEDAR’s partner United Mission to Nepal (UMN) has been working exclusively in Nepal since 1954. In its long history, UMN has always maintained two characteristics, serving Nepal with a united mission of people from many organisations, denominations and parts of the world in the name of Christ, alongside Nepali colleagues; and working with the aim of training Nepali people and building the capacity of Nepali organisations. UMN has integral mission as its core value, envisioning the fullness of life for all Nepali in six aspects – religious/ cultural, political/ economic, social/ communal, interpersonal/ psychological, material and ecological, to live healthy, dignified and hope-filled lives in community. UMN promotes cooperation between church and community in order to respond to the needs of grassroots people. CEDAR is now supporting a new programme of UMN. The programme targets to empower 2,000 churches and their leaders within 5 years who in turn will be catalyst to bring about holistic transformation in their communities or target groups.

Pray for the church empowerment in Nepal:

  • Pray that CEDAR and HK churches can learn more about partner’s approach, the country, as well as local churches context and environment;
  • Two of our co-workers will visit Nepal in late September. Pray for good communication and fellowship with local partners and Christian groups, and their safety as well.

Remember Flooding in Northern India and Nepal

[ePrayer – Remember the India flooding in prayer]

eprayer20130627-c1

Early monsoon rains have caused massive flooding and landslides in northern India’s Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh states and Nepal since mid-June 2013, affecting tens of thousands of people. The state of Uttarakhand in India suffered maximum damage. More than 1,000 people have reportedly died with many more missing. Damage to bridges and roads left over 70,000 pilgrims and tourists trapped in various places, of whom, many are waiting to be rescued. About 22,000 local people are said to be still stranded. In Nepal, 39 people have been killed and more than 1,700 families have been displaced. CEDAR partner EFICOR has sent a team to Uttarakhand making need assessment. Integral Alliance, a global Christian network coordinating the disaster relief response, is monitoring the situation closely.

Remember the India flooding in prayer:

  • May His comfort and protection go to the victims and those who lost their families in the flood.
  • Pray for His strength that EFICOR and other CEDAR partners can respond to the relief effectively and efficiently.

Remember the Advocacy and Women Empowerment Programme in Nepal

[ePrayer – Pray for the women empowerment project in Nepal]

eprayer20130614-c2

Since 2011, CEDAR has been supporting partner Share and Care Nepal to improve lives of rural women and girls through formation and empowerment of the women and girls self-help groups in Makawanpur. By partner’s effort, the women and girls are now a major part of social actions and eagerly engaged in social activities like making of toilets, advocating for citizenship and promotion of girl education. Through encouragement & facilitation of local team, the boys began to support social activities and helping the community people. Nepal’s new government has been formed but was not able to announce of the election of constitution assembly as more than half of the political parties are against the new government.

Pray for the women empowerment project in Nepal:

  • Give thanks that good progress has been made in the programme, and both girls and boys now participate in social actions ;
  • Pray for programme schedule and activities which are affected by the strikes and demonstration, raise in price of fuel, transportation, commodities and lengthy power cut ;

  • Praise the Lord that Shanti Nepal’s community health and empowerment project in Dhading has made good progress and it is one of the official demonstration sites for promoting and mobilising community health development in the country.
  • Pray that the work of Shanti Nepal will bring with good health, better living and good neighbourhood to impoverished communities.
