Twenty two years ago when the United Nations General Assembly saw many innocent Palestinian and Lebanese children became the victims of Israeli invasion, dedicated June 4 of every year to be “the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression”, hoping this would serve as a constant reminder to all UN members of their holy obligations, which is to ensure that every child in the world enjoyed the protection vested by the “Declaration of the Rights of the Child”, and to raise people’s concern for those physically abused and/or spiritually afflicted children around the world.

Glimmer of Hope for Rohingya Migrants

One of over 600 Rohingya refugees who arrived in Indonesia’s Aceh Province after being rescued by local fishermen on 15 May.

“The boat was very crowded,” a 29-year-old Rohingya migrant has just spent six months at sea, in an open boat crammed with 450 people. “It was hard to sleep or take exercise. Our legs were swollen; we were very weak. We prayed to Allah. We thought we would die at sea.”

Since 2007, World Day of Social Justice has been observed annually on 20 February. Through this, the United Nations hopes to mobilse all national governments to implement measures to eradicate any forms of discriminations, inequalities and barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, disability or culture, so that one’s income, education opportunity, rights to basic care, decent job, shelter, water, and political participation will not be determined by their birth, residence, gender, religion or race; and that one can be free from threats and physical violence.

International Year of Soils 2015: Healthy Soils for a Healthy Life

The UN has declared 2015 the International Year of Soils. There are more than 805 million people facing hunger and malnutrition in the world. Population growth will require an approximately increase of 60 percent in food production. As food production mainly depends on soils, it is important to keep them healthy and productive.
