As the government army began purging the region’s opponents last year, it has triggered the world’s fastest-growing refugee crisis, with the United Nations warning of a potential genocide.

CEDAR Supporting the Refugees from South Sudan

[ ‘SHARE’ May-Jun 2017 ] STEP INTO THE WORLD

Ever since the declaration of independence of South Sudan, the South African country was never free of ethnic and political conflicts. South Sudan’s President, Vice President, and the House Chair came from the tribe of Dinka, Bari, and Nuer—three of the largest ethnic groups of the country—respectively. The Vice President raised a coup against the President in 2013, and the political conflict quickly turned into a nation-wide civil war, involving over 20 military groups, and causing the deaths of tens of thousands of countrymen. An increasing number of regions were damaged by the violence exerted by both the government and the anti-government forces.

In September 2015, the image of the body of the Syrian boy, Alan Kurdi, washed up on the shores of Mediterranean Sea, drew the attention of the globe to the European refugee crisis and the wars in Middle East. Just a month ago in April, the equally disheartening image of a Syrian father holding the bodies of his little twins died from chemical attacks has once again stirred people’s sentiments.

The food crisis in East Africa brought by drought and conflicts is threatening the lives of 20 million Africans. Members of the Integral Alliance (IA) are working tirelessly in providing food to Somali, Kenya, and Ethiopia. CEDAR is currently focusing on helping Ethiopia through our local partners and member agencies of the IA.

Ecuador Earthquake and Haiti Hurricane Relief Updates

Ecuador has experienced several earthquakes in April 2016 that caused the death of 650 and the miseries of another 380 thousand. Half a year later, the central American Haiti experienced a tornado that affected 2 million of its countrymen. We are thankful for the support of the Christian body for channeling their funds through us to the member organizations of the Integral Alliance (IA) within both countries, who worked tirelessly in alleviating the situation.

Currently, drought and famine in East Africa are putting 20,000,000 lives in grave danger, and imminent humanitarian help is needed. The members of the Integral Alliance (IA) are constantly monitoring the needs of Somali, North Kaya, and Ethiopia and are actively planning to provide relieves.
