COVID-19 cases hit a record high in India with over 400,000 new infections being reported every day. At the time of writing, the total number of reported cases edges towards 23 million, and the total death toll stands over 240,000. Let us pray for the people of India during this tumultuous time, and that India can bring the outbreak under control. We also pray that those infected will get proper medical treatments and those who have lost their loved ones find comfort in our merciful God.
CEDAR Fund has been in close contact with our Indian partner EFICOR, learning that the local people, especially the poor, are living with anxiety and fear. As the virus continues to spread through the country, what the poor worry most may not be infection, but their financial hardship. With the COVID-19 crisis ravaging the local economy, lots of the poor struggle to put food on the table. In view of the humanitarian crisis, CEDAR Fund has allocated around HK$230,000 to support our partner to provide 1,000 poor families living in the slums of Delhi with immediate cash assistance, so that they will be able to purchase food and other urgent necessities. Such relief work will be carried out through our partner and local churches.

The fund will enable us to respond to immediate needs, and support disaster mitigation in poor nations always being hit by disasters to reduce the amount of devastation.
