Disaster Risk Reduction Central to Post-2015 Development Process

[ePrayer – Pray for the poor and marginalised people]

eprayer20130614-n2

A UN report outlining a new framework to build on the anti-poverty targets known as the MDGs was written to drive five major transformational shifts, including a transition from ‘reducing’ to ‘ending’ extreme poverty, leaving no one behind; putting sustainable development at the core of the development agenda; and forging a new global partnership based on cooperation, equity and human rights. The new framework focuses on assisting the poorest and most marginalised, a disproportionate number of whom are women, and puts reducing disaster risk centre stage in the Post-2015 Development Agenda debate. The report said no one is more vulnerable than people in poverty to face challenges by desertification, deforestation and overfishing and these are less able to cope with floods, storms, and droughts. Natural disasters can pull them into a cycle of debt and illness, to further degradation of the land, and a fall deeper into poverty. [UN News]

Pray for the poor and marginalised people :

  • Pray for global partnership for achieving anti-poverty targets after 2015;
  • Pray that people in poverty can be empowered to adapt and cope with natural disasters.

Impoverished Families in Ethiopia Got Support

[ePrayer – Pray for the impoverished families and children in Ethiopia]

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There are 182 impoverished children supported by our partner AAGC. Also, there are more than 210 parents in 11 self help groups (SHGs). 7 SHGs started to provide loans for the members and this activitiy has drawn more and more people to engage in SHGs. A special programme during Christmas and Easter was held and former sponsored young adult were able to share with the sponsored children.

Pray for the project serving the impoverished families and children in Ethiopia :

  • Give thanks that sharing from former sponsored youth at Christmas and Easter programmes have become an encouragement to sponsored children;
  • Also give thanks that 4 children came to Christ and are taking baptism class.
  • One child died of drowning in deep water recently and two mothers died of AIDS. May God comfort their family members.

Remember the Advocacy and Women Empowerment Programme in Nepal

[ePrayer – Pray for the women empowerment project in Nepal]

eprayer20130614-c2

Since 2011, CEDAR has been supporting partner Share and Care Nepal to improve lives of rural women and girls through formation and empowerment of the women and girls self-help groups in Makawanpur. By partner’s effort, the women and girls are now a major part of social actions and eagerly engaged in social activities like making of toilets, advocating for citizenship and promotion of girl education. Through encouragement & facilitation of local team, the boys began to support social activities and helping the community people. Nepal’s new government has been formed but was not able to announce of the election of constitution assembly as more than half of the political parties are against the new government.

Pray for the women empowerment project in Nepal:

  • Give thanks that good progress has been made in the programme, and both girls and boys now participate in social actions ;
  • Pray for programme schedule and activities which are affected by the strikes and demonstration, raise in price of fuel, transportation, commodities and lengthy power cut ;
  • Pray also for third year programme planning and its implementation.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ:

An earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale on 20 April struck Lushan County in Yaan, Sichuan, promptly bringing back the memory of Wenchuan quake five years ago. However, the public media soon turn their focus on whether HKSAR government should grant China 100 million HKD relief fund and the integrity of relief and development agencies. Also many people said, ‘I would not donate any of my money to this relief work.’ These made a huge contrast with the past active response of Hong Kong people to emergency relief, concern for the hardships and needs of victims and touching stories with compassion.
